Can I study medicine in Poland from Ireland?

Yes. Poland's medical universities teach medicine in English, and your Leaving Cert is recognised automatically for applying. Each university sets its own rules, but all of them look closely at biology and chemistry. As an Irish citizen you need no visa.

Which universities teach medicine in English?

Universities across Poland do, including those in Warsaw, Kraków (Jagiellonian), Gdańsk, Wrocław, Łódź, Lublin, Białystok, Bydgoszcz, Rzeszów and Katowice (the Medical University of Silesia).

How do Polish universities choose?

Each sets its own rules, and the science subjects decide it. The Medical University of Silesia, for example, ranks Irish applicants on their Leaving Cert results: it converts your grades into points with its own table for Ireland, using biology plus chemistry or physics. Only if a required subject is missing does it set an entrance exam, held orally, online and in English.

What documents does an Irish student need?

Bulgaria asks for much more: compare the documents.

When should I apply?

Most English-taught programmes in Poland start in October and take applications from spring into the summer. Silesia's 2026 autumn registration ran from 1 April to 15 August, so don't wait for results day to start.

Missed the autumn? Silesia also takes first-year medical students for February: see what's still open.

Why do families get help with this?

Every university has its own subjects, windows and paperwork, and the windows don't wait for results day. I keep track of them and handle the applications and documents for families.
